Oatmeal in the Slow Cooker

There's nothing better than waking up to a hot breakfast-that you didn't have to cook :).
Especially on a school morning when time is tight.

This takes 5 minutes at bedtime and it's done.  Make sure you use the steel cut oats.  I used the old fashioned rolled oats and they were mushy and overcooked by morning.  The steel cut oats were perfect.


Add one cup of steel cut oats to your 1.5 quart slow cooker.  


Add 4 cups of water.


Add 1/2 cup of half and half.


Cook on low for 8-9 hours.


Don't be afraid of the "skin" on the top of oatmeal in the morning.  Just stir it up.


We simply added brown sugar to the hot oatmeal.  You could add fruit, butter, or whatever your crew likes.
